Glamp 2022

Here is the info you need to know for Glamp 2022

When: Weekend of March 11-13, 2022

Theme: Retro! This will be reflected in the menu, and we plan to have a clothes-swap (and associated modelling/catwalk event!)

COVID info: You need to have a Vaccination Pass to attend the Glamp either for the weekend or as a day tripper.

Accommodation
  • We are staying at the Marahau Outdoor Education Trust, on the foreshore at Marahau. Sleeping is in bunkrooms, with 2 or 4 bunks each. There is a well-equipped open-plan kitchen/dining area and bathrooms.
  • There is a small shop at Marahau with basic food items, as well as a café
  • We have to clean the venue before we leave and be out by 3pm at the latest, so please have a willing attitude and pitch in when you are asked to help on Sunday
  • Please pay accommodation costs of $34 to the bank account 38-9011-0090903-02, with your name and “Glamp” as references, then email Jackie to have your name added
Costs
  • Accommodation $34 total for two nights
  • Day tripper fee $4 (paid to the camp) if you're just coming on Saturday
  • Food (approximately $25 - we'll update this when it's known). Sadly, we couldn't do a fundraiser this year due to COVID constraints.
  • Transport (if a passenger) $10
  • Water taxi (if relevant to your walk) $43 for Anchorage, $39 for Appletree Bay

Transport and arrival
  • We’ll be carpooling, and most will want to leave after work on the Friday. Please let Flora know what your transport plans are, and if you can bring your car. She will help match cars with people. Allow $10 to pay the driver if you are a passenger.
  • If you are bringing a bike, you must let us know about this so we can match up cars, bike carriers and people.
  • There will be someone at Marahau by 3.30pm Friday. Please don’t arrive before then.
What is provided
  • Dinner on Saturday night and breakfast Saturday and Sunday (food allergies/preferences will be catered for as long as you notify them to Jane. We have generally been able to cater for most requirements.) But you can still bring your own food if you want to/need to.
  • Tea/coffee/hot chocolate
  • Anything left over that can’t be kept for the next Glamp is shared out between all of us to take home

Daytrippers on Saturday only
  • You must be at Marahau by 8.30am at the latest on the Saturday if you want to do any of the organised walks and catch the boat. The boat leaves at 9am.
  • There is a day fee of $4. Please pay to the bank account 38-9011-0090903-02 with your name and "Glamp" as reference.
  • You are very welcome to stay for the dinner – if you want to do that you must let Jane know and it will cost $10, paid to the bank account in advance.

What you need to bring
  • Sleeping bag, or other bedding
  • Pillow
  • Towel
  • Dinner for Friday – you can bring something to heat up or cook it in the kitchen. Note this is NOT a pot luck – you need to cater for yourself. On other Glamps groups have arranged to cook together. Please keep your food simple so that only a minimum of cooking time is required. Microwave and ovens available.
  • Lunch for both Saturday and Sunday – something easy to take on a walk with you. You can prepare your lunch in the kitchen but you must bring your own lunch wrap or container.
  • Crockery and cutlery – there is some there but best to bring your own (named please)
  • Baking/biscuits/bottled fruit to share if you are able and willing
  • Any extra drinks other than tea/coffee/water that you might want to indulge in (alcohol is ok in moderation)
  • Money (cash) for your car driver if you are a passenger, and for the boat trip if you are doing that, and food if you haven't paid in advance. No IOUs!
  • Sturdy walking shoes, depending on the walks you plan to do
  • Comfortable walking clothes - ensure that you have enough warm layers
  • Raincoat
  • A warm hat and gloves if you are doing the long inland walk
  • A day pack to take with you on walks
  • Water bottle and nibbles for the walk (nuts, dried fruit or muesli bars are good)
  • Sunhat, sunblock and insect repellant
  • A walking pole if you have one, but don’t buy one especially – there may be some spares available or a sturdy stick will do
  • Your bike (and helmet) if you want to do some biking at the Kaiteriteri Bike Park on Sunday morning
  • Swimming togs
  • Games, etc, if you want to for the evenings
  • Crafts if you wish
  • Personal toiletries and medication – you are responsible for your own medic-alert related medicines.
  • A named, lidded plastic container is useful to keep your things in the fridge, and to take home leftovers
  • (Non-perishables are kept for the following year, but there is usually some food to share out)

Walk options for the Saturday
Easy walks. These walks don’t need an escort.
  • Walk along the start of Abel Tasman Track to the first beach (about 1 hour return)
  • Walk to Tinline Bay and do the Nature Walk there (about 2 - 2.5 hours altogether)
Moderate walks (escorted)
  • Catch the water taxi to Appletree Bay, then walk back along the Coast Track (about 2 - 2.5 hours walk, easy walking, including a swim if weather suits)
  • Catch the water taxi to Anchorage, then walk back along the Coast Track (about 4-5 hours, easy walking, including a swim if weather suits)
High impact, get-a-puff-on walk (escorted)
  • Catch the water taxi to Anchorage, then walk up the inland track to Holyoake’s Clearing Hut (2-3 hours uphill), then back down to Tinline Bay and out along the Coast Track. Fabulous views on this walk! It will take walkers 5-6 hours in total, and requires a good level of fitness and good walking shoes or boots.

Saturday evening activity
We plan to have a clothes swap, and associated modelling/catwalk event for anyone willing!

Biking
Depending on interest, we will have a bike option on Sunday morning. This will be at Kaiteriteri Bike Park and it will be up to bikers to arrange this among themselves. It is up to bikers to arrange for their bikes to be carried on a vehicle with a bike
rack or trailer. Flora might be able to assist in coordinating this or letting you know who else is taking a bike.

Possible Sunday walk after cleanup
There is a lovely walk down to Split Apple Rock (from the Marahau-Kaiteriteri road) which we hope to do on Sunday after cleanup, if you don't want to do the biking option. A lovely beach for swimming.
