- Please let Flora know what your transport plans are, and if you can bring your car. She will help match cars with people. Allow $10 to pay the driver if you are a passenger.
- If you are going to Anchorage on the water taxi, you must be at Marahau by 8.30am to catch the 9am boat.
- Lunch – something easy to take on a walk with you
- Money (cash) for your car driver if you are a passenger
- Sturdy walking shoes, depending on the walks you plan to do
- Comfortable walking clothes - ensure that you have enough warm layers
- Raincoat
- A warm hat and gloves if you are doing the long inland walk
- A day pack
- Water bottle and nibbles for the walk (nuts, dried fruit or muesli bars are good)
- Sunhat, sunblock and insect repellant
- A walking pole if you have one, but don’t buy one especially – there may be some spares available or a sturdy stick will do
- Swimming togs
Walk options
Moderate walk
- Catch the water taxi to Anchorage, then walk back along the Coast Track (about 4-5 hours, easy walking, including a swim if weather suits)
- Catch the water taxi to Anchorage, then walk up the inland track to a junction near Holyoake’s Clearing Hut (2-3 hours uphill), then back down to Tinline Bay and out along the Coast Track. Fabulous views on this walk! It will take walkers 5-6 hours in total, and requires a good level of fitness and good walking shoes or boots.
